For a program that wants a guarantee of a home-and-home series with the Texas Longhorns, the Texas Tech administration and its fan base did itself no favors.

According to one high-ranking Texas official, what they witnessed first-hand from Texas Tech fans and administration on Saturday was “totally pathetic.”

Throwing stuff (and not just tortillas) on the field year after year, letting fans run amok after a win, enough so to cheap shot an opposing player from behind, not to mention fans taunting players on the field following the game, all of it combined is not something Texas officials will ask of or expect their players to be party to in the future.

You can’t blame Texas officials for that.

The first two possessions for opponents in the last three games:

Bama
1. 11 plays – field goal
2. 1 play – touchdown

UTSA
1. 20 plays – field goal
2. 10 plays – touchdown

Texas Tech
1. 18 plays – touchdown
2. 13 plays – touchdown

If part of Steve Sarkisian’s overall strategy is to build a big lead on offense with his script in the the first half, then the Horns’ corresponding strategy on defense must change.

If the goal is to make an opposing offense one-sided because your own team scores a lot of first-half points, well, you have to get your own defense off the field earlier in the game in order to build that lead.

That means taking more chances by the defense earlier in the game.

This seems to be a pretty rudimentary idea.

The style of the offense is not working in conjunction with the style of defense.

Something needs to change because the current course being taken independently by both units is not working together to achieve the desired result.
