The first national signing period for college football runs from December 21-23. That puts it a week later than normal, which allows you even more time to familiarize yourself with the next class charged with helping restore Texas back to national prominence.

The preceding 2022 class is already off to a good start, but the way to win at a consistently high level is to stack talented class after talented class. At all times you need young players developing, creating competition, and providing valuable depth before becoming quality starters.

The Top 5 contending 2023 class is just what Texas needed after the Top 5 2022 class.

Up next, Will Randle.

The Player: Will Randle, TE, New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman

The Rating: 86.33, On3 Consensus three-star

The Ranking:

The Recruitment: While evaluating Arch Manning, the Texas staff noticed his top target in tight end Will Randle. Soon after they met, UT extended an offer to the 6-foot-3, 225-pounder. LSU, SMU, Ole Miss, Virginia, and Tulane all came calling, but when Randle visited Austin for the first time his junior year, he had a good idea of where he’d be playing college football.

The Projection: “Will Randle is quite possibly the finest total football player I’ve ever coached. He absolutely dominated on both sides of the ball. He is a relentless blocker plays violent and physical in the run game. He’s athletic enough to play at h-back, Tight end, slot and, outside. His high football IQ allowed us to move him all over the place on offense. He also dominated  as a devastating edge rusher for us on defense. Adding both his character and work ethic, he is simply irreplaceable. I don’t think I’ll ever coach anyone like him in my career. He will flourish in Sark’s offense.” – Isidore Newman HC Nelson Stewart

The Reasoning: “To be honest, it was a lot of reasons. The first time I visited (UT), it felt different. It felt like home. With coach Sark, coach AJ (Milwee), and coach (Jeff) Banks, I felt like they have the mindset that I have; we just want to win. The offense is the best in the country. (The staff) knows what to do with the ball. They have weapons all over the field. They’re starting something new and it’s only going to continue to keep building and want to be a part of that.” – Will Randle

The Relationship: Texas did a tremendous job recruiting Randle as a player, not Arch Manning‘s best friend. Tight end coach Jeff Banks was superb in convincing Randle and his family that Austin was the best possible place for the three-star talent. Randle remains close to Banks, AJ Milwee, Kyle Flood, and Steve Sarkisian. He’s also close to a number of Texas football players including Michael Taaffe and Gunnar Helm.

The Final Word: When he committed to Texas, it started a chain reaction with the addition of Manning four days later. Obviously his decision didn’t have much to do with what Manning did, but the two discussed playing together in college for years.

“I kind of had an idea that Will (Randle) was going there (Texas) all along. I was still kind of looking at other places at the time until the official visit, which sealed the deal. But here we are.” – Arch Manning
