“Hall is a high ceiling talent”

With Agiye Hall, a former Alabama wide receiver and No. 11 overall prospect in the 2021 On300, announcing his commitment to the Texas Longhorns, the Longhorns added another significant playmaker who is in the pass-catching trade.

Texas’ offseason portal success at receiver and tight end began when Isaiah Neyor joined the fold, followed by Jahleel Billingsley. Hall then decided to become the next addition to Steve Sarkisian’s program.

In order to get a bit of a Crimson Tide perspective on what Hall brings to Austin, Inside Texas caught up with BamaOn3’s Jimmy Stein.

“The amazing statistics which define Agiye Hall’s 1.5 years at Alabama: he created a ton of attention and expectations when, as an early entry true freshman, he caught four balls for 72 yards in the Alabama spring game,” Stein said. “And it wasn’t simply the numbers, it was the manner in which he made the plays, displaying great hands, an impressive catch radius and explosive speed. Seemingly poised for a big true freshman season in the fall of 2021, he promptly caught… 4 balls for 72 yards. Over the course of 15 games, he matched his A-Day stats perfectly. Crazy, isn’t it?

“Per public statements by the head coach, Hall did not exactly avail himself of the culture created and set by current and past players in the Saban Era. Even with Alabama struggling to find more than three play-makers outside, with a Heisman-winning QB throwing the passes, Hall did not find himself in the lineup. It took injuries to multiple Tide receivers before Hall played significant snaps in a game, that game happening to be the national championship game.

Hall was given opportunities on that big stage and did not cash all of them in. Saban pointed to perhaps not properly preparing himself for the moment throughout the fall. He eventually left the program. Hall’s cryptic and not-so-cryptic tweets throughout the ordeal were unhelpful.

Hall is a high ceiling talent. Tremendous frame. Long arms, long legs. Built like an ideal possession receiver but with explosive speed which makes him a vertical threat. Hall has the ability to become a game-changing playmaker. A fresh start in Austin was sorely needed.”
