I've already touched on one returning skill player this offseason who is going to have a major role in the 2022 offense (perhaps the most important role), wide receiver Xavier Worthy. As Texas' most dangerous overall receiver and deep threat, Worthy sets the table for the rest of the offense by pressuring the opposing goal line on every snap. Ideally every offense would have someone like Worthy who can attack the back end of a defense and force them to yield some space underneath. Yet even with that essential component, an offense's regular identity ultimately comes down to how they approach the task of moving the chains against the (hopefully) compromised defense. For Texas it's pretty obvious what their identity will be. They have Bijan Robinson, one of the best running backs in the country, five returning offensive linemen who did their best work in 2021 in the run game, and a pair of young quarterbacks. It's plain enough Texas will continue to feed the ball to Worthy and Robinson on a weekly basis with an eye for mixing heavy doses of run game with play-action. The Longhorns also have Roschon Johnson, the hero of the Kansas State game who carried the offense to an important win which snapped a five-game losing streak and helped the team end the season with a taste of victory. Robinson was out against K-State with an injury and Worthy was limited (six catches for 65 yards) by injuries to Hudson Card and Casey Thompson which wiped out Texas' vertical passing game.
