Furthermore, there’s at least one forthcoming change of a veteran’s number, with Jordan Whittington abandoning his No. 4.

Players like Baxter and Holmes will share the same jersey number. That only means the duo can not be on the field at the same time. While one plays offense and the other defense, the only limiting factor is that the two can’t be on the same special teams unit. Holmes previously wore the No. 7 at Wake Forest.

Baxter wearing No. 4 on offense is only left open because Whittington elected to wear jersey No. 13 for his expected final year on the 40 Acres. Similar to Ja’Tavion Sanders giving up No. 3 for Quinn Ewers last spring.

Catalon wore No. 1 at Arkansas. But he’ll switch to No. 11 at Texas because Justice Finkley already wears No. 1 at Texas. Coincidentally, the player Catalon is expected to replace at boundary safety, Anthony Cook, also wore no. 11. Reminder that Xavier Worthy moved from No. 8 to No. 1 before the Alamo Bowl.

Mitchell is expected to don the No. 5, the same number he wore at Georgia, that was left open by the departure of Bijan Robinson.

Newcomer Arch Manning will wear the same college number that his uncle Peyton Manning wore while at Tennessee, No. 16. Peyton switched to jersey No. 18 once drafted by the Indianapolis Colts.

Defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell will wear No. 92 this season. He wore No. 90 in high school but defensive tackle Byron Murphy already sports that number.

There will be other jersey numbers revealed soon, especially among the true freshman offensive linemen. The university typically releases the new roster with assigned jersey numbers the day that spring practice begins.
