PFF Grades: Texas vs Texas Tech

Inside Texas takes a closer look at the grades for the offense and defense of the Longhorns after their 37-34 overtime loss on Saturday to Texas Tech in Lubbock, per PFF.

QB

Hudson Card, 71.8.

The redshirt sophomore played well on the road – 20-of-30, 277 yards, two touchdowns, one interception – and graded at 78.2% running the ball. Card’s off-schedule 40-yard scoring shot to Xavier Worthy was a hell of a throw.

RB

Keilan Robinson, 69.0; Bijan Robinson, 65.5

Keilan might’ve graded higher (11 snaps), but Bijan certainly out-snapped the Texas tailbacks on Saturday (47). Bijan’s 123 total yards (101 on the ground) and 6.3 yards per carry, in addition to two touchdowns led the Horns rushing attack.

WR

Jordan Whittington, 62.6; Tarique Milton, 71.4

Whittington led the UT receivers in all categories – four catches, 53 yards, and 53 snaps. Worthy’s 16.7 yards per catch (3 catches, 50 yards, one TD) was sorely missed in the second half.

TE

Ja’Tavion Sanders, 58.0%

The metroplex sophomore collected a team-high five catches, 40 yards receiving on Saturday, and in addition to superb blocking, was in on 61-of-63 plays for the Texas offense.

OL

Christian Jones, 74.4; Hayden Conner, 62.8; Kelvin Banks, 62.3

Mr. Jones led the way with the highest overall grade in 63 snaps, adding a team-high 82.2% run-blocking. Conner graded 62.8, while Banks added a team-high 85.7% pass-block.

DL

T’Vondre Sweat, 91.0; Keondre Coburn, 86.7

Sweat was tremendous in 54 snaps on Saturday. With three tackles and one batted-pass, he also graded 91.9 for pass rush, one of the best in the nation. Coburn, in 39 snaps, added a team-high 80.3% in rush-defense.

EDGE/LB

Ovie Oghoufo, 77.2; Barryn Sorrell, 68.2; DeMarvion Overshown 59.2

Oghoufo tallied six tackles and two tackles for loss in 75 snaps. Sorrell added a 70.2% in pass-rush. Overshown, despite missing the first half due to targeting, played 60 snaps, graded at 71.2 in pass-rush while notching six tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss. Jaylan Ford led linebackers with 12 tackles.

CB

D’Shawn Jamison, 70.1; Ryan Watts 70.7

Watts led the team in snaps (99), corners in grades and stats – seven tackles, two pass break-ups, 81. 4% in tackling, and 74.6 in rush defense. Jamison notched three tackles and a sack in 79 plays.

S/Nickel

Anthony Cook, 69.9; Jahdae Barron, 74.3

Cook played fantastic leading the team in tackles (14) and one pass break-up, while adding a 72.6 coverage grade. Barron had another strong outing with nine tackles and two pass break-ups, in addition to a defensive back-leading 83.7% in pass-rush.
