With low numbers in Kyle Flood’s offensive line room this spring, Texas has made a move to alleviate the lack of depth. Third-year defensive lineman Sawyer Goram-Welch has switched sides and will play offensive line this spring, sources confirmed to Inside Texas. He will play an interior offensive line role, either guard or center.

Goram-Welch was listed as an offensive lineman wearing No. 61 on a 2022 roster posted Wednesday to TexasSports.com, the UT athletic department’s official website. The roster was taken down after being up for a short amount of time, but Inside Texas sources confirmed the move.

A member of the Longhorns’ class of 2020, Goram-Welch has appeared in five games during his career at Texas. He played in three games in 2020 versus UTEP, West Virginia, and Colorado, and two games during the most recent 2021 season versus Louisiana and Rice. He has two career tackles.

He helped Longview to the 2018 UIL 6A Division 2 state championship over Beaumont West Brook. Goram-Welch was ranked as a three-star prospect in the class of 2020, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 107 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 146 recruit from the state of Texas.

Despite signing a historic 2022 offensive line class consisting of Devon Campbell, Kelvin Banks, Cole Hutson, Neto Umeozulu, Cameron Williams, Malik Agbo, and Connor Robertson, only Hutson will be on campus for spring practices after enrolling early. With only Jake Majors, Andrej Karic, Christian Jones, Logan Parr, Isaiah Hookfin, Junior Angilau, Hayden Conner, Jaylen Garth, and Max Merril available as far as scholarship offensive linemen, Texas needed to bolster depth for the 15 spring practices ahead of Steve Sarkisian’s second season.

Goram-Welch, who was listed at 6-foot-4 and 301 pounds, offers the best combination of size and weight to play on the offensive line of available candidates.

Texas begins spring practices on March 22, with the Orange-White Game set to take place on April 23.
