It’s an exciting time for Texas Longhorns athletics. Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium recently saw the south end zone expanded and the football facility adjacent to it upgraded. The Moody Center is set to replace the 40-plus year old Frank Erwin Center, and both the basketball programs and national champion women’s rowing will receive new practice facilities as well. Baseball and softball recently received facility upgrades, and several athletic ventures brought home national championships in the past calendar year.

These are just a few of the things that Texas athletics director and vice president Chris Del Conte has crossed off his list since joining the burnt orange and white in 2017. That list seems to be always ever growing.

Del Conte sat down with Inside Texas’ Bobby Burton to discuss a host of topics:

-He spoke about the timeframe for when the Texas Longhorns could depart the Big 12 Conference for the confides of the Southeastern Conference.

-With the recent addition of former TCU Horned Frog head coach Gary Patterson as a special assistant to the head coach at Texas, Del Conte went into detail about his relationship with Patterson, what led him to lure the former head Frog from Funkytown to the Forty Acres, and what got Patterson to say “yes” to Del Conte, Steve Sarkisian, and Longhorn football.

-Facilities and fundraising are always on the forefront of Del Conte’s mind. There have been plenty of advancements for several men’s and women’s programs, but Burton had Del Conte answer what could be next as far as facility upgrades for Texas Longhorns football. The Frank Denius Practice Fields and “the bubble” are aging and near-universally scorned. Could an improvement be on the way for the area where Texas lags behind others in the conference?

-Del Conte was very secure at TCU and led many of the Horned Frog athletic programs to their highest heights. What led him to travel south down Interstate 35 and succeed Mike Perrin, and take over as athletic director for both the men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletic programs?
