For New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman tight end, Texas commit Will Randle, he always had a good idea of where he’d be playing college football.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound three-star committed to the Longhorns in mid-June and hasn’t looked back. Now, he’s preparing for his last season at Newman.

“We lifted each morning at Newman (this summer), then after that, I’d focus on my speed and agility,” said Randle. “I was working with a strength coach three to four times a week. Working on my speed and footwork. You know slow feet don’t eat, so I had to get better. Really, I just wanted to be the best team captain and leader for our team. These guys mean so much.”

With offers from Texas, LSU, Alabama, Virginia, and Tulane, Randle explains why he’ll be calling Austin home for the 4-5 years.

“To be honest, it was a lot of reasons,” Randle explained. “The first time I visited (UT), it felt different. It felt like home. With coach Sark, coach AJ (Milwee), and coach (Jeff) Banks, I felt like they have the mindset that I have; we just want to win. The offense is the best in the country. (The staff) knows what to do with the ball. They have weapons all over the field. They’re starting something new and it’s only going to continue to keep building and want to be a part of that.”

While people dismissed the idea that Randle and teammate, close friend Arch Manning, would play at the next level together, Manning had an idea from the start.

“I kind of had an idea that Will (Randle) was going there (Texas) all along,” said Arch Manning. “I was still kind of looking at other places at the time until the official visit, which sealed the deal. But here we are.”

Both Randle and Manning are looking at the Texas-OU rivalry game in Dallas as their next opportunity to see the Longhorns in action.

Isidore Newman opens the season at Hahnsville (La.) on Friday.

Randle is the nation’s No. 25-ranked tight end and No. 481 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 tabs Randle as the No. 33-ranked tight end and No. 29 overall prospect in Louisiana.
