On3 national college football columnist Jesse Simonton has made it clear he thinks highly of the Texas Longhorns. He ranked Steve Sarkisian’s team as tops in the Big 12 in his conference Post-Spring Power Rankings, and found several different UT position groups to be among the best in the nation.

As far as the entire team, he thinks the Longhorns are one of the best in FBS heading into the 2023 campaign. Simonton ranked the Longhorns No. 9 in his Post-Spring Top 25, the highest ranked team from both the Big 12 and the state of Texas.

Can Steve Sarkisian finally win 10 games? Can Texas stop squandering second-half leads? Will the Longhorns write their Big 12 swan song and win the league in their final season in the conference?

They should

Texas is loaded, returning of the better offensive linestight ends and receiver rooms in the country, plus Sarkisian likes the development he’s seen from quarterback Quinn Ewers this offseason. They bring back six starters on defense, too, led by All-American linebacker Jaylan Ford.

The Longhorns were one of four Big 12 teams. Kansas State was No. 16, TCU was No. 21, and Oklahoma was No. 24. 2023 opponent Alabama checked in at No. 5 and was one of five SEC teams included in the list. Georgia unsurprisingly lead the way and claimed the No. 1 spot.

The Big 10 had five teams included, with No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 Ohio State vying with the Bulldogs. The ACC had four teams represented. The Pac 12 put five teams on the list. Independent Notre Dame made an appearance, while the Group of 5 was represented by the American’s Tulane.

Arkansas, Texas Tech, UTSA, Texas A&M, and South Carolina were included in the “just missed” category.
