Texas DL Keondre Coburn accepts invitation to 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl

Texas fifth-year senior and All Big 12 second team defensive lineman Keondre Coburn accepted an invite to the East-West Shrine Bowl on Wednesday, the bowl announced. The 98th Shrine Bowl is February 2nd, 2023 in Las Vegas.

The 6-foot-2, 344-pound Spring (Texas) Westfield product and fifth-year defensive lineman played in 50 career games, with 33 starts. He notched 94 tackles (50 solo), 14 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and one block over his career in Austin.

Coburn was named a 2022 third-team All-Big 12 Preseason selection by Athlon Sports, preseason fourth-team All-Big 12 by Phil Steele in 2022, and was selected to the 2021 Bednarik Award preseason watch list. Coburn was also a third-team All-Big 12 Preseason selection by Athlon Sports in 2021 and a fourth-team All-Big 12 Preseason selection by Phil Steele in 2021, while named All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2020 and 2021.

Coburn was an high school All-American and three-time all-district honoree, and played in the 2018 Under Armour All-America Game. He earned Defensive Player of the Year honors from the Touchdown Club of Houston in 2017, and named District 16-6A Defensive MVP and first-team all-district. He was chosen to the 2017 Super Team by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, listed No. 9 in the Austin American-Statesman’s Fab 55 and No. 10 in the Houston Chronicle’s Top 100, and rated No. 47 nationally (No. 2 DT) and No. 6 overall in Texas by ESPN.

Coburn was ranked No. 167 nationally (No. 12 DT) and No. 16 overall in Texas by Rivals, while also rated No. 194 nationally (No. 19 DT) and No. 20 overall in Texas by 247Sports. Coburn was named first team All-State by the TWSA and honorable mention All-State by the Associated Press in 2017 after recording 56 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, four pressures and two passes batted down as a senior.

The East-West Shrine Bowl is the longest-running college all-star football game in the nation. An important part of America’s football tradition, the event gives top college players a chance to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and a national television audience. This year, the East West Shrine Bowl is part of the NFL’s Pro Bowl Week events in Las Vegas, Nevada.

For more than 90 years, some of football’s greatest athletes and coaches have contributed to the tradition of the East-West Shrine Bowl. Players like Tom Brady, Walter Payton, Lawrence Taylor, John Elway, Gale Sayers and Jimmy Garoppolo, played in the East-West Shrine Bowl along with coaches Don Shula, Dick Vermeil, Paul “Bear” Bryant and Jerry Glanville, to name a few, have supported the East-West Shrine Bowl.
