Texas enters two major top-25 polls on heels of Big 12 regular season title

After the Longhorns took home a share of the 2023 Big 12 regular season title thanks to a sweep of West Virginia, Texas entered two of the major college baseball top-25 polls as conference tournaments are set to begin.

Texas was No. 20 in the D1Baseball poll, while the Longhorns were No. 13 in Baseball America’s top 25.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys and the West Virginia Mountaineers shared the Big 12 title with Texas. OSU was No. 18 in D1Baseball’s poll and No. 12 in Baseball America’s ranking. WVU was No. 21 in D1Baseball’s list while Baseball America pegged them as the No. 14 team.

Longhorn opponents in the D1Baseball top 25 included No. 4 Arkansas, No. 5 LSU, and No. 8 Vanderbilt. In Baseball America’s poll, Arkansas was ranked No. 3, LSU was No. 5, and Vanderbilt was No. 6. Arkansas took home a share of the SEC regular season championship thanks to a 20-10 record in league play. The Razorbacks shared the title with Florida.

No other Big 12 team was in the top 25 in either poll. The 2023 Big 12 Tournament begins this weekend in Arlington. Texas is the No. 1 seed and will face No. 8 seed Kansas on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. Central at Globe Life Field.
