Both receivers have been dynamic for Texas this season, but Bond has not quite been 100% since the Oklahoma game on October 12th.

On Thursday, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian had this exchange regarding Bond’s health:

Is there a fine line in trying to see if Isaiah Bond can go or if the bye should be used to steal another week: “You answered the question for me. There’s a fine line in trying to figure that out.”

The heavy lift for Texas this week, at least on paper is the Longhorns defense against the Commodores triple option spread offense. That doesn’t mean Sark is taking the Vanderbilt defense lightly, he just seems to value giving Bond the extra rest.

For the season so far, the explosive Bond has 23 receptions for 380 yards and 4 touchdowns. Needless to say, the Alabama transfer has made good on his potential.

So too has the near five-star Wingo. The St. Louis native from a well known football family has delivered on his potential to the tune of 16 receptions for 308 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s also added 3 carries for 87 yards.

Bond has been a strong playmaker for Texas this season but the hope is Wingo won’t be much, if any, of a drop-off. This scouting report from On3 nailed what he brings to the table.

An electric playmaker who picks up yards in a hurry. Ran a 10.64 100m, 21.46 200m and a 50.72 400m in 2022. The ability to defeat the angle with the ball in his hands is among the best in the 2024 cycle early on. Can take the top off of defenses with ease but is not just a straight line player. His ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces and finish runs is rare for someone with his long speed. Has a chance to be an impact player at the next level. Older brother is former Arkansas running back Ronnie Wingo.

This Saturday the Horns hope to get back on the winning track against a game Vanderbilt that finds itself ranked No. 25 after quality wins over Virginia Tech, Alabama, and Kentucky.
