Wednesday, January 18 marked the final day undergraduate student-athletes in fall sports could ask for their name to be entered into the NCAA transfer portal. Compliance offices have up to 48 hours after a student-athlete submits their request to place their name into the database, meaning though the window closed on Wednesday players could still have their name appear on Thursday and Friday.

Texas could still add players from the portal, or see players decide to expend their eligibility elsewhere, prior to the start of spring practices.

However, most of the dust has settled when it comes to the portal, and a lookback on who left Austin and who arrived on the Forty Acres can be made.

Departure: Logan Parr, OL, SMU

On3 Transfer Portal Ranking: N/A

Parr spent most of his career as a back-up center. He appeared in 16 games.

Departure: JD Coffey, S, San Diego State

On3 Transfer Portal Ranking: N/A

Coffey played in 12 career games and had 11 total tackles.

Departure: Ovie Oghoufo, EDGE, LSU

A two-year starter at the Buck position on the Longhorn defense, Oghoufo leaves Texas after he began his career at Notre Dame.

Departure: Ishmael Ibraheem, CB

On3 Transfer Portal Ranking: N/A

Injury plus legal trouble resulted in Ibraheem’s indefinite suspension from the team in September.

Departure: Troy Omeire, WR, Arizona State

Knee injuries derailed the 2020 and 2021 seasons before they could even get going for Omeire. He has one career catch for nine yards.

Harris rarely saw playing time during his tenure on campus. He arrived in Austin rehabbing a significant knee injury.

Card played in 22 games at Texas with five starts, including three in the place of Quinn Ewers during the 2022 season. He leaves Austin with a 127-of-194 stat line for 1523 yards, 11 touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also added one rushing touchdown.

Departure: Agiye Hall, WR

Hall left the program prior to bowl practices. He played in three games during a tumultuous time at Texas and had one catch for seven yards.

Departure: Jamier Johnson, CB, Indiana

On3 Transfer Portal Ranking: N/A

Johnson rotated at cornerback but saw his playing time decrease as Austin Jordan and Terrance Brooks took more snaps.

Departure: Junior Angilau, OL, Oregon

On3 Transfer Portal Ranking: No. 110

Angilau suffered a season-ending injury prior to the 2022 campaign. With plenty of talented young depth at OL, Angilau sought a new destination closer to home for his final season.

On3 Transfer Portal Ranking: N/A

Richardson saw spot duty at linebacker, EDGE, and fullback during his two seasons at Texas.

Arrival: Gavin Holmes, CB, Wake Forest

On3 Transfer Portal Ranking: No. 39
Seasons left: Two years to play two seasons, plus the COVID year

The details: Holmes played in 11 games in 2022 for the Demon Deacons, with seven starts at cornerback. He recorded 23 tackles and nine PBUs for Wake Forest this past season. His season-long defensive grade according to Pro Football Focus was 66.3. Texas secondary coach Terry Joseph leveraged his Louisiana connections to land the former Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel standout.

Arrival: Ryan Sanborn, P, Stanford

On3 Transfer Portal Ranking: No. 1 punter
Seasons left: One year to play one season

The details: With Isaac Pearson transferring out and Daniel Trejo out of eligibility, Jeff Banks addressed a major special teams need via the portal. Sanborn has a career punting average of 41.5 yards per punt, with a high-water mark of 43.3 yards per punt in 2021. He could also place kick in a pinch.

Arrival: Jalen Catalon, S, Arkansas

On3 Transfer Portal Ranking: No. 108
Seasons left: One year to play one season, plus the COVID year

The details: Catalon had a standout 2020 season, garnering AP first-team All-SEC honors after a 10-game campaign with 99 tackles and three interceptions. Injuries derailed his next two seasons, with Catalon playing just seven games in 2021 and 2022. He entered the portal following the completion of the 2022 season, and committed to Texas on January 9. Texas needed help at safety ahead of the 2023 campaign, and Catalon should address that need if he is able to remain healthy.
