Texas stays No. 3 in the latest AP Top 25

After the Texas Longhorns’ dominant 38-6 win over the Baylor Bears in Waco, Steve Sarkisian’s program remained the No. 3 team in the latest AP top 25. The Longhorns garnered two first-place votes, one fewer than the three they received last week.

The Longhorns’ upcoming opponent, the Kansas Jayhawks, entered the rankings at the No. 24 spot setting up matchup between ranked teams Saturday, September 30 at 2:30 p.m. Sarkisian is 3-7 versus top 25 teams while at Texas, with his third win coming earlier this season against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The other Big 12 team to make the poll in addition to the Longhorns and Jayhawks were the the No. 14 Oklahoma Sooners. Kansas State and TCU were in the receiving votes category.

Other teams from Texas’ schedule in the top 25 were the No. 12 Alabama Crimson Tide. No other team from Texas was in the top 25.

The Longhorns moved up one spot in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll to No. 5, trading places with the Southern Cal Trojans. Kansas entered the Coaches Poll top 25 at No. 24.
