With Daniel Trejo graduating and Isaac Pearson entering the transfer portal, the Texas Longhorns have a need at the punter position. They may have found a smart replacement for fourth downs in the 2023 season in the transfer portal.

Inside Texas has learned Stanford punter Ryan Sanborn, who entered the transfer portal in late November, will take a visit to Texas the weekend of December 10.

Sanborn was a four-year starter at punter for the Cardinal, even taking on place kicking and kickoff duties from time to time. In 2019, he was the only true freshman specialist in country to handle punting duties full-time, kickoff at least 20 times (27) and make 7-or-more field goals.

During his senior season in 2022, Sanborn punted 57 times, averaging 41.7 yards per punt. He had 22 fair caught, 18 land inside the 20, and nine go further than 50 yards. Against Cal, he had 8 punts and averaged 43.88 yards per punt with a long of 59. Four landed inside the 20 and two went further than 50 yards.

In 2021, he had 60 punts with a long of 60 and averaged 43.3 yards per punt. Four went into the end zone for touchbacks, 16 were fair caught, 19 landed inside the 20, and 16 went 50 yards or further.

Across six games in 2020, Sanborn punted 23 times and averaged 39 yards per punt. In 2019, he had 52 punts, including a career-long kick of 68 yards, and averaged 40.5 yards per punt.

He is also 8-of-10 for his career in field goal attempts with a long of 48. 17 of his 30 kickoffs have resulted in touchbacks.

A member of the class of 2019, Sanborn was ranked as the No. 2 punter according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 1508 overall player and No. 144 player in California in his class.
