Texas right handed pitcher Ty Madden was selected 32nd overall by the Detroit Tigers in the 2021 MLB Draft. Madden, named an All-American by several different publications, is the first Longhorn to be selected in the first round since Corey Knebel in 2013.

He is the first Longhorn starting pitcher to be selected in the first round since Taylor Jungmann in 2011.

Madden was named the 2021 Big 12 pitcher of the year in addition to his first-team all-conference honors. He compiled a 7-5 record in 18 starts, striking out 137 and walking 44 over 113.2 innings. He pitched a complete game shutout against Houston in the early part of the season, and was a consistent performer for the Longhorns on Friday nights.

A draft eligible redshirt sophomore, Madden likely leaves Texas with 14 career wins and 200 strikeouts over 181 innings.
