After a late intense push from the hometown Texas Longhorns, Austin Westlake EDGE Ethan Burke flipped from Michigan to UT on early National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Listed at 6-foot-7, 230 pounds, Burke has been a key piece in a Westlake Chaps defense that is en-route to a likely Texas High School Football 6A three-peat as state champions.

Before receiving his first power-five football offer from Utah on October 28th, 2021 Burke was primarily viewed as a Lacrosse player. The 6-foot-7 athlete was committed to play lacrosse at powerhouse program Maryland, before eventually committing to the Wolverines in December following a visit for the Michigan vs. Ohio State game.

A few attributes that stand out for Burke are his 6-foot-7 frame, 83-inch wingspan, and elite short-area quickness and bend for a player of his stature.

Burke is rated as a four-star according to On3 with a 90 grade. The Westlake EDGE impressed On3 director of scouting Charles Power in a district matchup against cross-town rival Austin Lake Travis.

“Westlake EDGE Ethan Burke is a senior riser, adding recent offers from Baylor and Utah. The 6-foot-7, 230-pounder sticks out with his considerable stature. Burke made a number of disruptive plays, sacking Bo Edmundson and batting several passes. He has 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks on the season so far.”

Burke is the 25th commit in Texas’ 2022 class.
