After a 1-1 week where the Texas Longhorns topped rival Oklahoma in overtime in Norman and fell to now-No. 9 Texas Tech in the Erwin Center, Chris Beard’s squad didn’t see their Associated Press ranking of No. 20 change.

More important than the Longhorns’ standing in the AP Poll is where the NCAA’s NET, or NCAA Evaluation Tool, places the Longhorns.

Through February 20’s slate of games, the Longhorns currently occupy the No. 15 spot in the NET rankings, good for fourth in the Big 12 behind No. 5 Kansas, No. 6 Baylor, and No. 8 Texas Tech.

Texas (19-8, 8-6 Big 12) currently has a 5-7 record in Quadrant 1 games, which are home games versus top 30 teams, neutral site games versus top 50 teams, and road games against top 75 teams. Texas’ Quadrant 1 wins came against at Kansas State, at TCU, Tennessee, Kansas, and at Oklahoma. Their Quadrant 1 losses include at Gonzaga, at Seton Hall, at Oklahoma State, at Iowa State, at Texas Tech, at Baylor, and Texas Tech.

The Longhorns are 4-1 in Quadrant 2 games, with a loss to Kansas State in the Erwin Center as the lone blemish. The Longhorns are 10-0 in Quadrant 3 and Quadrant 4 games.

Texas has four games remaining in its regular season schedule before the start of the Big 12 Tournament on March 9 in Kansas City, Mo. Wednesday’s home matchup versus TCU is currently a Quadrant 2 affair with the Horned Frogs well outside of the top 30. The trip to Morgantown, W. Va. this Saturday is currently a Quadrant 1 tilt, but the Mountaineers are close to the top-75 cusp with their current No. 69 standing. Remaining games versus Baylor, the final regular season men’s basketball game in the Erwin Center, followed by a road trip to Lawrence, Kan. to face the Jayhawks on KU’s senior day are virtual locks to remain Quadrant 1 contests.

Games in the Big 12 Tournament could help Texas’ NCAA NET standing should they need those games, but the strength of the Big 12 with every member in the top 70 should mean Texas’ current conference win total is sufficient for an NCAA Tournament bid. The Longhorns of course having higher aspirations than being a bubble team.

In conference, Kansas is No. 5, Baylor is No. 6, Texas Tech is No. 8, Iowa State is No. 35, Oklahoma is No. 45, Oklahoma State is No. 53, TCU is No. 56, Kansas State is No. 60, and West Virginia is No. 69. Tennessee, who the Longhorns defeated in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, is No. 11

Though the Coaches Poll, like the AP Poll, does not factor into NET, the Longhorns remained in the top 25 with a No. 22 listing in the most recent edition.

The NCAA Tournament selection show is scheduled for Sunday March 13 at 5 p.m. on CBS.
