Upcoming opponent: Michigan Wolverines

Head coach: Sherrone Moore (2nd season), 18-8 overall

2025 record: 9-3 (7-2 Big 10)

Last game: Michigan lost 27-9 to No. 1 Ohio State on November 29

Star offensive player last time out: RB Jordan Marshall – 7 rushes for 61 yards

Star defensive player last time out: LB Jimmy Rolder – 12 tackles, 1.5 TFL

Quarterback: Bryce Underwood – 179-for-293 for 2229 yards and nine touchdowns with six interceptions, 74 carries for 323 yards and five touchdowns.

Offense: Moore calls plays for a Michigan offense that uses copious amounts of motion and misdirection to create confusion for opposing defensive fronts in the run game. However, some of what the Wolverines have done appears to be as a result of Underwood’s youth. All that in mind, Moore and the Wolverines love to pound the rock as U-M averages 25 passes and 39 rushers per contest. Some explosivity has been added to the offense in freshman wide receiver and Texan Andrew Marsh, but few other threats for the Wolverines play outside of the offensive backfield. Jordan Marshall and Justice Haynes have led the way for the Wolverines with over 1789 combined rushing yards and 20 total touchdowns.

Defense: Don Martindale is still at defensive coordinator for Michigan and is the same defensive play-caller Texas faced in 2024. A blitzing fanatic, the Wolverines’ defense struggled some in 2025 without first-rounders like Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham in the middle of the defense. Linebackers Jimmy Rolder and Ernest Hausmann lead the team in tackles, while EDGE Derrick Moore leads all Wolverines with 10.0 sacks. Linebacker Cole Sullivan leads the team in interceptions with three.

  • QB Jake Garcia. After playing for multiple high schools, it only follows that Garcia played for multiple colleges. Once the No. 53 overall prospect in 2021, Garcia went from Miami to Missouri to East Carolina to Michigan. His most prolific year was last season with the Pirates as he passed for 1426 yards and eight touchdowns, adding two scores on the ground.

All-time series: Texas leads 2-0

Last matchup: Texas traveled to the Big House early in the 2024 season to face the defending national champions. The Longhorns spoiled Moore’s first big game as permanent head coach of the Wolverines, controlling the entire contest on the way to a 31-12 win. Quinn Ewers threw for three touchdowns with one to Jaydon Blue, one to Gunnar Helm, and one to Matthew Golden, while Jerrick Gibson rushed for a score. Andrew Mukuba and Derek Williams logged interceptions while Jahdae Barron recovered a fumble in a day where Texas limited Michigan to one touchdown scored in garbage time.
