For the first time this season, a USC Trojan was named Pac-12 Player of the Week. The honor went to senior guard Boogie Ellis and he needed just one game to do it.

Ellis scored a career-high 31 points to help erase a 12-point halftime deficit in an eventual 77-64 win against No. 8 UCLA. He scored 27 of those points in the second half, matching the Bruins’ second-half scoring output by himself.

Ellis made 10 free throws without a miss and handed out six assists. The 31 points were the most scored by a Trojan since Onyeka Okongwu scored 33 against Pepperdine on Nov. 19, 2019. According to USC, it matched the most for a USC player against UCLA since Sam Clancy scored 31 against the Bruins during the 2000-2001 season.

Ellis had scored 20 points or more just four times this season before that 31-point outburst. He’s on a run of 11 games in a row scoring in double figures

He leads the Trojans with 16.3 points per game and is No. 1 on the team with 45 made three-pointers this season.

Previously this season, Tre White was named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week.

USC’s Finish to the Regular Season

USC is 15-6 overall and 7-3 in Pac-12 play this year. The Trojans have won four of their past five games. The loss was a disappointing blowout at Arizona. But wins against Utah, Arizona State and UCLA have been hugely impactful to the conference standings.

USC is in third place in the Pac-12 right now, half a game behind Arizona and one game behind UCLA.

Next up for the Trojans is a home game against Washington State on Thursday evening. USC is looking to avenge a 10-point road loss to the Cougars on New Year’s Day.

With its two games against UCLA completed, USC has 11 games remaining in the regular season and will play each conference team one time.
