Evan Mobley was regarded as the best high school big man in the country when he enrolled at USC in the fall of 2000. Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren was considered the best freshman in the country last fall. They are similar in size; Mobley was 7’, 210 pounds at the beginning of his one Trojan season. Holmgren had more hype before his freshman season. He was 7’, 195 pounds when he arrived in Spokane. Mobley was the third pick in the draft and Holmgren is thought to be in the top three on most draft boards this Spring. So who had the better freshman season between these two one-and-done college stars? The answer is not clear-cut, but the majority of the data favors Mobley.
