In my humble opinion, cardinal and gold thoughts on what I see, what I hear, and what I think from Los Angeles: The divorce: If you’ve unfortunately experienced it, there are few things worse than a divorce, depending on who initiated it and why. The big winners, of course, are the lawyers. For the Pac-12, the conference continues its divorce calendar with USC and UCLA by declaring recently its decision to move the traditional July Pac-12 Football Media Day from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, which begins the process of extracting the L.A. market footprint from the Pac-12. The divorce – Part 2: As the Trojans opened spring practice on Sunday, most eyes - with the exception of the public and the media - were on Howard Jones/Brian Kennedy fields assessing who’s participating and who isn’t and those who have changed position groups. Meanwhile, the wheels are beginning to turn with the slow but ever-moving transition of the Pac-12 into whatever it’s going to be when USC and UCLA finally bid adieu to the other current ten members. Unlike a true divorce, it appears all the legal issues – for UCLA - have been settled, but like a divorce these is a tremendous amount of anger and resentment throughout the West Coast directed at the Trojans and the Bruins.
