New "Inside the Trojans' Huddle": Spring Game review, attendance, NFL draft

On this week’s Inside the Trojans’ Huddle, panelists Marc Kulkin, Chris Arledge, Erik McKinney, and Greg Katz review the spring game with emphasis on the performances of the offense and defense. In addition, the panel reacts to the spring game atmosphere and how the game came across on ESPN. Also, “Musings with Arledge” commentary, the NFL draft as it pertains to USC draft eligible players, and viewer questions and panel answers.

Among the specific conversation topics:

The panel evaluates the spring game offensive performances of quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Miller Moss, the running back productivity of transfers Travis Dye, Austin Jones, and Darwin Barlow, the wide receivers/tight ends led by Mario Williams, the efficiency of the offensive line, and the general overall impressions of Lincoln Riley’s offensive schemes and concepts.  

On defense, the panel discusses the overall defensive scheme and its spring game effectiveness. , The panel responds to Saturday’s defensive performance: encouraging or discouraging?  The panel raves about the play of the defensive lineman Tuli Tuipulotu. There is overall discussion on the depth of the front seven from what was seen in the spring game and what needs to be added to the talent pool. The panel also gives their overall review of the secondary led by several youngsters against a talented group of USC receivers.

The halftime discussion revolves around the spring game Coliseum attendance numbers and the atmosphere of the game in front of live fans. What was it like at the Coli and how did the game perception come across on ESPN. 

After the “Lighting of the Coliseum Torch” between the third and fourth quarter of “Inside the Trojans’ Huddle”, it’s again time for the always entertaining and sometimes controversial “Musing with Arledge” with Chris Arledge, whose topic this week is Pac-12 officiating and Saturday’s spring game targeting call that wasn’t. Arledge gets off like nobody else can. Fasten your cardinal and gold seatbelts.

The panel also gives their thoughts on the upcoming NFL draft and which Trojans will be smiling and which players will be faced with a dose of hardcore reality. Obviously, wide receiver Drake London gets high predictions, but what about the other draft eligible players like running backs Keaontay Ingram and Vavae Malepeai? And what about outside linebacker Drake Jackson, is he a wildcard in the draft process?  Who will be the draft winners and the draft disappointments?

And, of course, in the “Overtime” period, it’s viewer questions and panel answers with a question about the Trojans NIL and assistants coaches.
