It may take a week or two until I get the format figured out and published as a Video Show and Audio Podcast, but Episode 1 of The “NO CAP” Podcast with 4-Star Tulsa (OK) Corneback Micah Tease will be audio only.

Micah Tease joins WeAreSC’s Scott Schrader for Episode 1 of the “NO CAP” Podcast

When then USC Interim Head Coach Coach Donte Williams hit up Tulsa (OK) Booker T Washington HS last October, he knew the Trojans weren’t getting 4-Star Cornerback Target Gentry Williams. But Coach Donte was just beginning his hot pursuit of 4-Star 2024 ATH Micah Tease.

Before I departed Booker T Washington in October, an assistant coach said to me, “Donte needs keep recruiting Micah.” This coach has a nephew who’s a freshman playing for Andy Enfield this season. His nephew’s name is Tre White and he actually flew out to Los Angeles for White’s official visit. So, he’s actually gotten and intimate look at USC as Williams and Tease have.

At one time Williams interest in USC was extremely high. In fact, several of us submitted predictions for the Trojans. Most came after his official visit, but the strong interest was present prior to the June 2021 Official Visit.

“I think me and Coach Donte’s relationship is never going to change,” Williams said last September. “How we communicate, it’s not really about USC, it’s more about life and about playing DB.

I have built relationships with other coaches, but with Donte its different. He knows how to relate to people really well. He doesn’t try to say funny jokes, he’s a very straightforward person. But he knows how to build relationships and get to know you. He’s really good at what he does.

“The biggest thing he preaches with me is academics, the things you can’t take away. He says you can’t take away academics, scenery, those are the things he preaches about USC.

Donte’s been the primary reason for interest in USC for a significant number of guys he’s pursued, including all three defensive backs the Trojans signed for 2022. Despite one of the worst seasons in school history, Domani Jackson, Zion Branch and Fabian Ross were headed to USC as long as Coach Donte remained on staff. That’s some strong testimony if you ask me.

Although Coach Donte and Tease have been communicating for more than a year, the Trojans had offered him as a wide receiver. After Riley was hired and Coach Donte was retained, the two picked up their communication in February.

“I think we started talking again in Janaury after the signing period ended,” Tease said.

There was a short stretch when Tease was unsure how vigorously the new staff would pursue, but that uncertainty ended in April.

“I was talking to Coach Donte in early April and he said they needed to get me out to USC,” Tease said.”He said they needed to make that happen. He talked to my parents for about 15 minutes and the next day we bought plane tickets to Los Angeles. It happened really fast.”

WeAreSC didn’t talk to Tease after his April USC visit, but we communicated via text.

“I didn’t really have expectations coming to LA.,” said Tease.”I was wondering what the university would look like, but once I got there, it blew my mind! I loved the campus, especially the village.

“USC left me with a lot to take in and left me with a desire to come back and visit more. The visit they had for me was very good. Words can’t even explain.”
