Week four of the 2022 NFL season is now in the books. Let’s take a look around the league at how several Trojans performed, highlighted by a pick six from Talanoa Hufanga on Monday Night Football.

Hufanga’s Pick Six

Another week, another big play from former USC safety Talanoa Hufanga. Now playing for the San Francisco 49ers, Hufanga’s pick six of quarterback Matthew Stafford helped seal a victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.

It is nearly impossible for USC fans to watch Hufanga continue to make big plays and not think of his 2020 All-American season for the Trojans. That year, he forced six turnovers in just six games.

Despite this, Hufanga fell to the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Anyone who watched the talented safety at USC knew that he was worth being drafted far higher than this. With his big plays this season, Hufanga continues to prove us right (and NFL scouts wrong) week after week.

Woods Grabs First Tennessee Touchdown

After winning the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams last season, former USC star wide receiver Robert Woods was traded to the Tennessee Titans over the offseason. On Sunday, Woods caught his first touchdown as a Titan on a seven-yard pass from quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Woods’s touchdown reception helped propel Tennessee to a 24-17 win over fellow former Trojan wideout Michael Pittman Jr. and the Indianapolis Colts. Pittman caught three passes for 31 yards in the loss.

Jack Jones’s Breakout Week Four

Hufanga was not the only former Trojan to record a pick six this week. New England Patriots rookie cornerback Jack Jones had a breakout game, picking off a pass from Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and taking it to the house. Jones also added a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in New England’s overtime loss.

Although he arrived at USC as a highly-touted recruit all the way back in 2016, Jones’s time as a Trojan was defined by more off-the-field-drama than it was on-the-field success. After being ruled academically ineligible prior to the 2018 season, Jones was arrested for breaking into a Panda Express. He subsequently left USC and transferred to a junior college.

Jones eventually wound up at Arizona State, where he spent the past three seasons. The Patriots selected him in the fourth round of this past year’s NFL Draft.
