WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at USC extending a new scholarship offer, the basketball program landing a visit from an intra-conference transfer, and celebrating the birthday of a USC legend.

New scholarship offer

On Wednesday, USC offered a scholarship to class of 2024 four-star defensive lineman Nigel Smith. Coming out of Melissa, Texas, the 2024 On3 Consensus currently ranks Smith as the number 58 player and the number six defensive lineman in the class of 2024.

In addition to USC, Smith holds offers from Texas, Ohio State, and Notre Dame, among other schools. Currently, the Longhorns are the favorite to land Smith. However, several other schools are not far behind.

Hoops lands visit from intra-conference transfer

According to reports, Oregon basketball transfer Eric Williams will take an unofficial visit to USC later this week.

The 6-foot-6 small forward began his career at Duquesne in 2017, before transferring to Oregon in 2020. After two seasons with the Ducks, Williams decided to enter the Transfer Portal again this offseason for his final year of eligibility.

In addition to USC, Williams also plans to visit San Diego this week. He is also considering leaving college and pursuing a professional basketball career overseas.

Celebrating a USC legend

Legendary USC quarterback Matt Leinart celebrated his 39th birthday on Wednesday, and USC did not hold back from joining in the celebration on social media.

In addition, head coach Lincoln Riley retweeted a tweet from the Heisman Trophy trust wishing a happy birthday to the 2004 Heisman winner.

As USC’s starting quarterback from 2003 through 2005, Leinart led the Trojans to back-to-back national titles. His 37-2 record as a starter remains one of the best winning percentages for a quarterback in college football history.
