WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at the latest prospect to receive a USC offer, a Pac 12 South rival adding a major addition via the Transfer Portal, and a former SEC coordinator throwing some shade at the Trojans.

New class of 2024 offer

USC extended a scholarship offer to class of 2024 edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot. Entering his junior season at Kenwood Academy in Chicago, Illinois, Lightfoot is not currently ranked in the On3 consensus recruiting rankings.

In addition to USC, Lightfoot currently holds offers from Notre Dame, Arizona State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Nebraska among other schools. According to On3 projections, the Irish are currently the leader in his recruitment.

Pac 12 South rival picks up big Transfer Portal addition

The Pac 12 South got stronger on Thursday, as Arizona State picked up a big addition through the Transfer Portal in former Florida starting quarterback Emory Jones.

As the starter for the Gators last season, Jones threw for 2,138 yards, 18 touchdowns, and ten interceptions in ten games. He also rushed for 628 yards and four touchdowns during that span.

Towards the end of the 2021 season, however, Anthony Richardson seemed to supplant Jones as Florida’s starter. Hence, it did not come as a huge surprise when Jones opted to enter the transfer portal in March.

Arizona State is in need of a replacement for three-year starter Jayden Daniels, who transferred to LSU earlier this offseason. In Jones, a redshirt senior with two years of eligibility remaining, they hope to have found that guy.

Former SEC coordinator throws some shade at the Trojans

Former Auburn offensive coordinator sounded off on the Trojans on Wednesday, claiming that his 2004 Auburn team “should be the national champions.”

In an appearance on the Paul Finebaum Show, Borges called it “absurd” that the Tigers did not receive the 2004 BCS title. USC won the championship that season, but was forced to vacate it by the NCAA in 2010 due to star running back Reggie Bush having received improper benefits from an agent.

“Did Reggie Bush’s playing for USC, is that the difference in 55-19, I don’t know,” Borges told Finnebaum. “Maybe it is, but I doubt it. So we should be the national champions. I see no rational reason why we shouldn’t be. But you know, my version is a little slanted. To leave the 2004 championship vacated when there should have been, when there is a champion, I think is absurd. But I don’t make that call.”

Borges served as the offensive coordinator at Auburn from 2004 through 2007 under head coach Tommy Tuberville. The 2004 team finished the season undefeated, but was not given the opportunity to play for the national championship, as USC defeated Oklahoma in the BCS Championship Game to win the title.
