WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at USC’s first national championship of the Lincoln Riley era, two big-name recruiting targets locking in visit dates, and USC making the top six for a highly-touted wide receiver.

Back-to-back champs

On Sunday afternoon, the USC Beach Volleyball team defeated Florida State 3-1 to win their second consecutive national championship. The win capped off yet another dominant season for the Trojans. After starting of 1-1, the national champs finished the year on a 36-match win

The victory marked the 134th national championship in school history, as well as USC’s first title of the Lincoln Riley era. With many other Trojan teams currently coming on strong, it seems safe to say that it will not be the last.

Two big-name targets lock in USC visit dates

Moving back to football, USC locked in visits for two big-name targets over the weekend. The first was four-star class of 2023 cornerback Christian Gray. Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Gray is ranked as the number 108 player and the number 10 cornerback in the class of 2023, according to the On3 Consensus rankings. Gray will officially visit USC the weekend of June 16-19, with his commitment date set for July 4.

In addition, four-star class of 2023 edge rusher Tausili Akana announced that he will be at USC next Saturday, May 14. Coming out of Kahuku, Hawaii, Akana is rated as the number 64 player and the number nine edge rusher in the class of 2023. While Nebraska is currently the favorite to land the talented prospect, USC is still very much in the mix as well.

USC makes top six for big-name WR target

Four-star WR Jalen Hale announced his top six schools earlier this week, and USC made the cut.

Hailing from Longview, Texas, On3 Consensus ranks Hale as the number 71 player in the class of 2023. He is also the number twelve wide receiver in his class, and the number 13 player in the state of Texas.

In addition to the Trojans, Hale’s top six consists of Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State.
