A daily three-point briefing recapping the news and notes of USC athletics. Today it’s prepping for USC’s game against Oregon State, checking with a 5-star target, and Donte Williams checks out Mater Dei.

Beat the Beavers

USC will look to move to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play Saturday night, when Oregon State comes to the Coliseum for a 7:30 pm game. Make sure you’re ready for the game by catching up on some of the WeAreSC coverage from throughout the week. Start with The Huddle, a one-page cheat sheet with news, notes, stats and a USC two-deep. Greg Katz delivered his O/NSO ahead of the Oregon State game and Marc Kulkin makes Yay or Nay predictions for the Trojans and Beavers.

We also took an in-depth look at the quick impact made by true freshman safety Calen Bullock, who is still “nowhere close to his potential” according to his high school coach.

Kevin Coleman talks USC

Five-star wide receiver Kevin Coleman (St. Louis/St. Mary’s) has been a little hot and cold as a USC target, but the 5-foot-11, 170-pound speedster is back on the radar now. WeAreSC’s Scott Schrader was in St. Louis Friday night to check in with Coleman, who spoke about why the Trojans are a serious option for him.

Donte Williams at Mater Dei

USC interim head coach Donte Williams is arguably the nation’s best recruiter. Friday night, he made sure to visit arguably the nation’s best high school football team.

Michael Hutchings joined Williams at Mater Dei as the two coaches saw the Monarchs blow out La Mirada, 58-7.

Five-star cornerback and USC commit Domani Jackson is sitting out the rest of this season due to injury, but there are plenty of USC targets still playing for the Monarchs. Outside linebacker David Bailey is at the top of the list, which might explain the presence of Hutchings on the sideline. USC is still chasing running back Raleek Brown, an Oklahoma commit.

Linebacker Leviticus Su’a is a standout 2023 prospect still waiting on a USC offer.

Cornerback Zabien Brown is already a big-time prospect in the 2024 class. Fellow 2024 prospect, linebacker Ramere Davis, is the younger brother of USC linebacker Raesjon Davis. And 2024 offensive lineman DeAndre Carter and defensive lineman Aydin Breland grabbed early USC offers.

Class of 2025 running back Jordon Davison will be a top target for the Trojans down the road. He already holds a USC offer.
