This is a position that is key to Alex Grinch's defense. Position coach Roy Manning said during last spring practice, "That rush position, that edge position, has to be an impact position" for the Trojans. USC dealt with a bunch of injuries there and eventually flexed defensive lineman Nick Figueroa outside about halfway through the season as the Trojans looked for answers. The group as a whole, or someone from the group, needs a much bigger year in 2023.
