Here are the On3 transfer players of the week for Week 5 of the season.

Each week, we pick a transfer of the week in each Power 5 conference as well as an overall Group of 5 transfer of the week. It’s not just transfers from this past offseason; all players who have transferred from other four-year schools are “eligible” to be selected

Everything being equal, more weight is given to big performances against “good” opponents.

ACC

LB Ayinde Eley, Georgia Tech
The buzz: Six days after Georgia Tech fired coach Geoff Collins, Eley led a spirited defensive effort in a 26-21 upset of Pitt for Tech’s first win over an FBS opponent in 11 games. Eley, who transferred from Maryland after the 2020 season, had 14 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. Pitt was just 2-of-12 on third down

Big Ten

QB Tommy DeVito, Illinois
The buzz: DeVito transferred from Rutgers after last season and now is at the controls of a team that surprisingly has started 4-1 after Saturday’s domination of host Wisconsin. DeVito scored on three 1-yard runs as the Illini rolled 34-10. He was 18-of-24 passing for 167 yards and helped the Illini offense control the ball for 35:39. Half of his completions went for first downs. DeVito, a fifth-year senior, had rushed for four TDs total in his career before Saturday.

Big 12

QB Adrian Martinez, Kansas State
The buzz: Martinez often had problems stacking good games at Nebraska, but he has been excellent the past two weeks for the Wildcats, including a four-TD effort in Saturday’s win at Texas Tech. A week after he played perhaps the best game of his career in a win over Oklahoma, Martinez followed it up by rushing for a career-high 171 yards and three TDs against the Red Raiders; he also tossed a TD pass as K-State rolled up 459 yards of offense and averaged 7.9 yards per play. Martinez’s TD runs covered 18, 69 and 12 yards, and he also threw an 18-yard TD pass. He and RB Deuce Vaughn combined for 341 rushing yards.

Pac-12

QB Cameron Rising, Utah
The buzz: A week after USC had to score in the final minute to fend off Oregon State, Rising lead the Utes to a 42-16 victory over the Beavers. He accounted for four TDs in the win; he threw for 199 yards and three TDs and also led the Utes in rushing with 73 yards and a score. Rising finished 19-of-25 and his second pass of the game was a TD. It’s the third game of the season with at least three TD passes for Rising, who transferred from Texas following the 2019 season.

SEC

RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama
The buzz: Gibbs transferred from Georgia Tech after the 2021 season and was expected to immediately be a big part of Alabama’s offense. Well, it took a while, but Gibbs showed off his speed and big-play ability Saturday in Alabama’s win over Arkansas. He had rushed for 172 yards in the first four games, then exploded for a career-high 206 on 18 carries (11.4 yards per attempt) against the Hogs; included were TD runs of 72 and 76 yards in the fourth quarter to help the Tide pull away. Alabama led 28-0 late in the second quarter, then watched as Arkansas chipped away to cut it to 28-23 entering the fourth period. Gibbs’ 72-yarder gave the Tide a 42-23 lead while his 76-yarder finished off the scoring in a 49-26 win. His previous career-high was a 132-yard effort against Virginia last season.

Group of 5

RB Dae Dae Hunter, Liberty
The buzz: Hunter, who left Hawaii after last season, accounted for three TDs as the Flames won 38-24 at Old Dominion. He rushed for 122 yards and two TDs, and also had three receptions for 60 yards and another score. Hunter scored on a 32-yard run late in the third quarter to give Liberty a 31-24 lead, then scored on a 41-yard pass to finish off the scoring midway through the fourth period. It was his second 100-yard game in a row and the fifth of his career.
