It’s official. Pete Nance is heading to North Carolina.

The former Northwestern guard took to Twitter to make the announcement Saturday afternoon. Nance was the top available transfer in the transfer portal, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, and has one year of eligibility remaining.

“My Northwestern Family, thank you all so much for the last four years, and for forming me into the man I am today,” Nance wrote. “We’ve been through some high highs, and some low low, but all for an experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world. To my coaches, support staff, and teammates, thank you all for supporting and encouraging me throughout my career, and making memories that will last a lifetime.

“I’m super proud to say that I have graduated from such an amazing university like Northwestern, and the N truly never comes off — I’ll always be a Wildcat!”

Assessing Pete Nance’s fit with North Carolina

As a senior last year, Nance averaged 14.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Northwestern before entering the portal. He tested the NBA Draft waters, but withdrew and entered the portal. Now, he’s going to try and help the Tar Heels fill the void of Brady Manek, a key piece of their NCAA Tournament run last year. With the other four starters returning, he’ll have a chance to play an important leadership role.

North Carolina got a huge boost when Armando Bacot announced his return to Chapel Hill, and the other three starters from the national runner-up team — R.J. Davis, Caleb Love and Leaky Black — all did the same. The only piece leaving was Manek, who came in from Oklahoma and emerged as a leader. Now, Hubert Davis and Co. brought in another graduate transfer to help replace him.

UNC also has the nation’s No. 22 recruiting class coming in, according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking. All three signees are top-100 prospects, led by four-star point guard Seth Trimble — the nation’s No. 38 player, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
