Northwestern wide receiver transfer Jacob Gill commits to Iowa

The Iowa Hawkeyes just landed a talented individual on the offensive side of the ball out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. On Tuesday, former Northwestern Wildcats wide receiver Jacob Gill took to social media to announce that he is committing to playing for the Hawkeyes in 2024.

Gill is joining his former Wildcat teammate, quarterback Brendan Sullivan, on head coach Kirk Ferentz roster for the upcoming season.

Gill played his high school football at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, NC, where he will become a three-star recruit with an industry rating of 82.3. The six-foot wide receiver committed to playing for Northwestern in the summer of 2020. Gill was the No. 1174 overall recruit, the No. 169 receiver prospect, and the 49th-ranked player to come out of the state of North Carolina in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

During his three seasons at Northwestern, Gill was used sparingly in the game plan but was on the field consistently for the Wildcats. In both his freshman and sophomore seasons, he played in all 12 games for the Wildcats. However, last year, he played in just four games as he was dealing with an undisclosed injury for the majority of the season. Gill leaves Northwestern with 16 receptions for 195 yards and two receiving touchdowns in 28 games over three seasons.

Predicting the win total ceiling, floor for Iowa in 2024

College football season is right around the corner. To get you ready for the upcoming season, Andy Staples and Cody Bellaire of On3 recently broke down every team in the Big Ten, including Iowa, and shared what to expect in 2024.

Even with new teams coming into the Big Ten, the Hawkeyes have a manageable schedule next year. Beating Ohio State in Columbus is obviously unlikely, but Iowa shouldn’t be heavy underdogs in any of its other games.

“Look, 10-2 is entirely realistic with this schedule, 11-1 might be realistic with this schedule. You’ve got Cade McNamara back. Now, the question is, do you have a healthy Cade McNamara for an entire season?” Andy Staples said. “Because losing him, that was sort of the beginning of the end last year, even though they won a bunch of games. Now they just brought in Brendan Sullivan from Northwestern as an insurance policy. So maybe they have a little more of a pulse on offense.”
