Brian Kelly shares new update on the status of Sevyn Banks
A scary moment involving LSU defensive back Sevyn Banks took place at Jordan Hare Stadium back in October. Early in the game against Auburn, Banks was stretchered off the field with a head injury after colliding with an opposing player. Banks has not returned to the field since, with head coach Brian Kelly providing the latest on Thursday.
Kelly said Banks is doing “better” but there is still not much of an update. MRIs are still being done on the former Ohio State transfer, making sure everything is going well. At this time though, progress is being made while things will be taken on a weekly basis for Banks.

“That’s a week-to-week situation,” Kelly said. “He’s better. He’s been in conditioning but I can’t offer you anything other than he feels good. He’s got full mobility and flexion. But that is a determination being made based on MRIs. Which, he’s scheduled to get another one here. I don’t know if it’s Tuesday or the following Tuesday. But, he’s made similar progress that Major Burns has made.”
Sevyn Banks has been dealing with injuries all season, only playing in two games for LSU this year. He was a two-year starter in Columbus and was expected to play a huge role for the Tigers. Against both Auburn and New Mexico State, Banks recorded five tackles and 0.5 tackles for a loss.
Three games remain on the schedule for Brian Kelly in his first season in Baton Rouge. An SEC Championship, plus whatever postseason appearance is on the table as well. Kelly will be hoping to get Banks back onto the field if the time is right.
A couple more steps seem to be required but nonetheless, it’s a positive update from the LSU head coach.
