Will Lewan, a three-time All-American for Michigan, won’t go far as he’ll join the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club as a senior-level athlete.

After completing his college career this past season, Lewan will focus solely on freestyle over the course of the next Olympic cycle. He was added to a loaded freestyle roster in Ann Arbor and will remain around the Wolverines.

So basically, Lewan can still sport the maize and blue in the room.

“I’m thrilled to continue my wrestling journey with the coaching staff and athletes at the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club here in Ann Arbor,” Lewan said, via a release. “I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to compete in freestyle.”

Michigan head coach Sean Bormet was thrilled to keep Lewan around a loaded Wolverines’ college squad as well as an experienced group of senior level wrestlers.

“We are excited to keep Will at Michigan and to continue working together as he embarks on this next chapter of his wrestling career,” Bormet said. “His skill set translates exceptionally well to freestyle, and he has achieved tremendous success at various age levels over the years. I’m eager to see what he can accomplish at the senior level.”

Lewan is no stranger to freestyle success as a former Cadet world champion. He won multiple age-level national titles in freestyle.

As a prep wrestler, he captured the 69 KG freestyle title at the 2017 UWW Cadet World Championships after sweeping the freestyle and Greco-Roman titles at the world team trials. He also claimed the 152-pound freestyle title at the 2017 Junior Nationals and was a five-time Fargo All-American.

More recently, Lewan claimed the U23 freestyle crown at 70kg at the 2020 U23 National Championships.

Lewan became an All-American at Michigan in 2020 with a 20-7 record ahead of the canceled 2020 NCAA Tournament. He was named to the Second-Team.

After getting to the Round of 16 the following year, Lewan broke through with a fifth place finish at 157 pounds in 2022. He also finished in eighth in 2023.

Lewan came back for a sixth season in 2023-24, qualifying for NCAAs for the fifth time. However, he went 1-2 at the tournament to end his career.

But, he’ll have a fresh outlook on the freestyle scene. It helps wrestling at the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club.

The CKWC features two current Olympians in heavyweights Mason Parris (freestyle) and Adam Coon (Greco-Roman). Parris won the 2023 NCAA title and Coon is a former NCAA finalist.
