After entering the transfer portal for a third time, former Nichols State, LSU, and UTSA safety Pig Cage has committed to Louisiana Tech, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Cage will finish his college football career with the Bulldogs for his final season of eligibility, as the Louisiana native will return to playing in his home state for the third time in his career.

Out of high school Cage chose Nichols State as college of choice, appearing in seven games during his freshman season that was played in the spring due to COVID 19. Where he 30 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two pass breakups, an interception, and a forced fumble. Named an FCS Freshmen All-America by HERO Sports, an All-Southland Second Team selection, an All-Louisiana Second Team selection, and finishing 14th in voting for the FCS Freshman of the Year Award.

Following his lone season with the Colonels, Cage transferred to LSU where he made eight game appearances and one start for the Tigers. Finishing the 2021 season with seven tackles and a sack before transferring once again to UTSA ahead of the 2022 season.

In the past two seasons with the Roadrunners, Cage appeared in 16 games as a reserve safety. Ending his career in San Antonio with 23 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups. Now joining LA Tech following three straight 3-9 seasons for the Bulldogs with plans on turning things around and bolstering up their defense in 2024. Representing the 10th player to join the team this offseason through the transfer portal and the eighth on the defensive side of the ball.

On the flip side, Louisiana Tech has lost 17 players to the transfer portal this offseason. But only six have committed to FBS programs ahead of the 2024 season. Including major losses like quarterback Hank Bachmeier committing to Wake Forest and wide receiver Kyle Maxwell committing to Texas A&M.

Cage played high school football at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie (LA) where he was an unranked, unrated recruit in the 2020 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
