Four-star PG Mikel Brown breaks down Florida, Texas, and Texas A&M and gets into potential upcoming visits
Mikel Brown is the No. 14 overall player in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. After spending last season at Bel Aire (KS) Sunrise Christian on the NIBC, the 6-foot-2 point guard transferred to Atlanta (GA) Overtime Elite this summer.
“I’m a leader,” Brown told On3. “I can play all aspects of the game, do all aspects of the game from the point guard position. I can shoot it, and I can play make. I’d say putting my team in the best situation to be successful is what I do best. I grew a couple of inches this summer, and I can see that I’m getting to the basket and finishing around bigs.
This summer, Brown averaged nearly double figures, playing up in age with the Austin Rives Southeast Elite program on the Adidas 3SSB 17U Circuit.
“I’ll watch Darius Garland, Steph Curry, Trae Young,” Brown said. “All the smaller guards, really, even Steve Nash. I watch how they’re able to manipulate the game and control the pace of play.”
On3 caught up with Mikel Brown after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.
Brown talks visits
“I’ve taken three unofficial visits so far,” Brown said. “I went to Texas, Florida, ,and Texas A&M.”
Texas: “The culture down there was my biggest takeaway. They’re like a big family there. The fan base is big, but like all the alumni, will come back and be around the players and give them advice. It’s big for the players who were formerly there, like Kevin Durant and TJ Ford, who plays my position, so that is big. That was my biggest takeaway.
“I have a great relationship with Coach (Rodney) Terry. He hits me up every week. We talk about the program and how he sees me fitting in with his system and how he sees me being successful in what they’re building.”
Florida: “Coach (Todd) Golden loves his guards and he lets his guards play. It is right down the street from home for me. Seeing how he allows his guards to play fereely, and play through mistakes is big for me.
“Florida is definitely a sports school. From every aspects of sprots, from track to football to basketball, they’re really good there. They’re always going to have a solid showing both on the court and with the fans. Gainesville is the University of Florida, so their fan base is big.”
Texas A&M: “They’ve been hitting me up a lot. College Station is a big sports town, and they take their sports very seriously. Coach Buzz (Williams) has a hard-working group, so you know they’re going to bring it every day. He is also going to let his guards hoop. Being able to develop a relationship with them is big.”
Brown updates recruitment
“I haven’t set anything up yet,” Brown said. “South Carolina has been wanting me to come on a visit, Indiana too.”
South Carolina: ‘I’m building a great relationship with them. My dad is from Columbia, South Carolina, so that is home for him. Being able to go back there and be in his hometown, see what it’s like where he grew up. It’s good building that relationship with them.”
Indiana: “They’re big, and they’ve been big for a long time. Indiana’s whole program they’re going to be good every year. They’re always going to have good guard play. Coach (Mike) Woodson is an NBA Coach, so he has an NBA mind, and he knows what is going to get you into the league. Being able to build with that staff has been good.”

“I want to go into a family environment,” four-star Mikel Brown said. “A place where we don’t even have to talk about basketball, but we’re all comfortable just talking about life. That is big for me. The opportunity for me to play and play through my mistakes as a freshman is big. I have high hopes. Giving me the opportunity to play and show everyone what I can do and grow as a person and a player. That is going to be big for me.
