The Australian Supercars takeover of NASCAR continues. This time, Will Brown is set to race with Richard Childress Racing at Sonoma. Brown is a young driver with a bright future ahead of him.

At Sonoma, the man who Triple Eight Racing hired to replace Shane van Gisbergen is coming to NASCAR himself. Will Brown is seen as one of the next stars in Supercars. Prior to last season with Erebus Motorsport, he had just one win in the series.

Now, Brown has eight career wins, three of them in 2024, and is leading the in championship points this season in Supercars. He only has one finish worse than P2 this season in eight races. He might be the next one up.

Everyone will get to see what Brown is made of this season. He will race at Sonoma and he won’t be the only Supercars alum racing that weekend in wine country.

“Absolutely incredible opportunity to be able to head stateside and race at the highest level in America with [Richard Childress Racing]!!” Brown wrote on social media. “Can’t wait to get to Sonoma and have been working hard to prep, but first we’ve got Supercars in Perth this weekend!”

Cam Waters, a Ford driver in Supercars, will also race at Sonoma. Waters is teaming up with RFK Racing for the Cup Series race. While Waters and Brown will race in the Cup race, right now, Shane van Gisbergen is not scheduled to race there.

SVG will race in the Xfinity Series that weekend. However, he will not be in the main event. There is time to change that, but van Gisbergen already ran the Wheel Force test at Sonoma. He was allowed to do that due to the fact he is not racing that Cup Series race at the track.

Richard Childress Racing replaces their Supercars driver

Last summer, it appeared that Brodie Kostecki was the next driver to make the jump from Supercars to the NASCAR Cup Series. He has ARCA experience, K&N experience – but Kostecki had contract issues back in Australia this season that led to sponsorship issues as well.

Despite racing the No. 33 car at the Indy Road Course, Kostecki is not returning to RCR. Richard Childress named him as a potential full-time driver in the future. Then, Kostecki has a falling out with his team, sits out a few weeks of the Supercars season, and then a falling out on his Boost Mobile (Australia) sponsorship.

So, Richard Childress Racing had to move on. While Kostecki is the defending champion, Will Brown looks like the man to beat for this year. The change is a little surprising, but it appears Supercars is the newest pipeline for drivers in NASCAR.

Shane van Gisbergen, Cam Waters, and Will Brown are coming to race. Will we see any other Supercars drivers make the jump? Are there more that have the talent to compete in the Cup Series? I’m sure RCR won’t be the last team to test out one of these Supercars talents.
