The SEC is no longer on CBS. The delightful jingle rarely served as an introduction to Kentucky football games. In week two of the new contract with ESPN, the Kentucky Wildcats will host the SEC on ABC.

The first two Kentucky football SEC kickoff times for the 2024 football season were unveiled on Wednesday. The Wildcats will host South Carolina on Sept. 7 at 3:30 on ABC. It will be one of the first SEC on ABC broadcasts.

The magnitude of this football game matches the broadcast TV timeslot. It’s not hyperbole to say the outcome of the Kentucky football season will be determined by what happens in week two.

Kentucky is 2-7 in home SEC games over the last two years. The 2024 slate is unforgiving on the road with trips to three preseason Top 25 teams: Ole Miss, Texas, and Tennessee. Kentucky must take care of business at home in order to reach or exceed lofty expectations.

One other common denominator from the last two underwhelming football seasons: losses to South Carolina. Kentucky has lost to Shane Freaking Beamer in two straight seasons. That ugly streak must end on Sept. 7.

The following week the Wildcats will be in primetime at Kroger Field for another broadcast on ABC. This time the Georgia Bulldogs are coming to town. A foe that has not been kind to Kentucky, let’s all hope the week two SEC on ABC broadcast goes well enough for the Wildcats to allow the BBN to dream big ahead of week three.

A kickoff time for the season-opener at Kroger Field against Southern Miss has not yet been announced.

It’s going to take some time to adjust to a new reality. The SEC on ABC must match incredibly high standards set by CBS. They aren’t off to the best start. The new logo for the SEC on ABC was unveiled earlier this week and it leaves plenty of room to be desired.

Is it that big of a deal? No. Does it lack creativity? Of course. This is boring minimalism and the SEC deserves better. Hopefully, the four-letter network puts more effort into its broadcasts than whatever it did with this unimaginative logo.
