Kenny Brooks’ debut coaching staff with Kentucky women’s basketball is nearly complete.

On Tuesday, Brooks announced the hiring of Will Sims as the Wildcats’ director of scouting and program analytics. Sims follows Brooks from Virginia Tech, where he spent the last two seasons with the Hokies as the program’s director of player personnel (2022-24).

“I am very excited and grateful to join Coach Brooks and Big Blue Nation,” Sims said in UK’s press release. “Kentucky basketball is synonymous with success, and I am eager to get to work to help continue that legacy.”

Sims was a member of Virginia Tech’s Final Four squad in 2023 and this past season’s ACC regular season champions. According to UK, his duties under Brooks included:

  • Assisting the coaching staff with recruit database management
  • Coordinating recruiting travel logistics
  • Managing the video library of potential prospects
  • Coordinating unofficial and official visit itineraries
  • Assisting with film exchange, scouting reports, and scheduled practice players.

Before joining Brooks in Blacksburg, Sims spent half a decade with his home-state Indiana Hoosiers, first as a manager and practice player for three seasons (2017-19) before sliding into a graduate assistant role for the next two seasons (2019-21). With Sims on staff, Indiana reached the Elite Eight in 2021. He made the leap to Virginia Tech from there.

A native of Fort Wayne, IN, Sims also spent time helping coach DistinXion, an AAU program in Bloomington, for two seasons. He graduated from Indiana in 2019 with a degree in sports marketing and management. Sims is the sixth new staff member announced by Brooks.
