Jason Rodriguez Steps Away from Football
USC offensive lineman Jason Rodriguez announced Monday that he is ending his football career. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman was a four-star prospect and the nation’s No. 301 overall prospect in the 2019 recruiting class. He played in six games during his USC career.
“My time at USC has been nothing short of great and rewarding,” Rodriguez said in a statement posted to his Instagram account. “No one has had more fun and memorable times that I have had. It dampens my heart to say that the time has come for me to proudly hang my helmet and leave the great game of football. Serving USC has been an incredibly fun and exciting experience. I am beyond proud to call The University of Southern California my home and cannot wait to see what future we plan to mold.”
Rodriguez received offers from Florida, Notre Dame, Oregon, UCLA, Utah, Washington and others in the 2019 class. He committed to USC in April of 2018 and served as an active recruiter in that class.
He could never quite carve out a significant role in the starting lineup for the Trojans, but was a mainstay on the practice field and locker room during his four-year career.
“It has been an absolute privilege to have played college football at one of the most prestigious universities,” Rodriguez continued in his statement. “To have been given the opportunity to be coached by the best of best coaches has been the fun of it all. I have great faith that USC football and its coaches will continue to become a more elite, disciplined group of men.”
Rodriguez specifically thanked his family and friends in this announcement.
“Lastly, I must thank all of USC and its fans,” Rodriguez said. “The most memorable memory I have of my time at USC has been hearing the Coliseum roar and celebrate wins. Thank you to everyone who helped me get to where I am.”
