Another former Washington player and assistant coach is headed to Los Angeles to join Eric Musselman’s staff with the USC Trojans. Quincy Pondexter announced Thursday that he is officially getting started with Musselman and the Trojans.

“Let’s work!!” Pondexter posted. “Honored to be a part of the Trojan family and [Eric Musselman’s] staff!! Can’t wait for the season to start! Galen Center will be rockin’!! Fight On!!”

Pondexter was a standout during a four-year playing career with the Huskies, from 2006-2010. He finished as Washington’s all-time leader in career games played and third all-time in scoring, with 1,786 points. As a senior, he helped upset No. 6 Marquette and No. 3 New Mexico in taking the Huskies into the Sweet 16. He became a first-round pick (No. 26 overall) by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2010 NBA Draft. Pondexter spent an injury-plagued NBA career with the New Orleans Hornets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.

In 2021, he began his coaching career with the Washington Huskies under head coach Mike Hopkins. The Fresno, California native expressed interest in the open head coaching position at Fresno State this offseason but was not granted an interview. Instead, he’ll still have a chance to coach a little closer to home.

He comes to USC along with fellow former Washington player and assistant coach Will Conroy. Conroy played at Washington from 2001-2005 and finished as the program’s career leader in assists. He spent nine years on the Washington staff.

The connection to Washington is obvious in the form of USC athletic director Jen Cohen, who served as the Washington athletic director from 2016 to the fall of 2023, when she took over with the Trojans.

Musselman’s assistant coaching staff is now set at five. He brought Anthony Ruta, Todd Lee and Michael Musselman with him from Arkansas and that group is joined by Conroy and Pondexter. Caleb Cline also came over with Musselman from the Razorbacks and is now USC’s Director of Basketball Operations.

USC also announced the hiring of Andre Carrera as the Trojans’ new Director of Men’s Basketball Sports Performance. Carrera comes to USC after three years with the Santa Curz Warriors in the G League as a Performance Coach.
