UCLA will have a couple of ‘firsts’ this year. It’s the Bruins’ first season in the Big Ten Conference, and it’s the first season at the helm for head coach DeShaun Foster.

Amidst those changes, Foster and his staff will look to significantly improve upon the 68th-ranked recruiting class from the previous cycle. A big step toward that would be landing Hesperia (Calif.) Oak Hills four-star running back Karson Cox.

UCLA is currently trending for Cox, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). On3’s Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction Sunday evening with a 60 percent confidence level for the Bruins to land Cox. UCLA now leads at 82.4 percent in the RPM.

Cox is the nation’s No. 294 overall prospect, No. 22 running back and No. 27 recruit from California in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 rates the 6-foot-0, 190-pound Cox higher than the other major recruiting services. He ranks No. 150 overall and No. 9 among running backs in the 2025 On300.

Cox visited Westwood over the weekend.

The star tailback from California averaged over 10 yards per carry with over 2,500 yards and 37 touchdowns over his sophomore and junior seasons.

UCLA recruiting class breakdown

Four prospects are currently committed to UCLA’s 2025 recruiting class: San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) San Juan Hills three-star linebacker Weston Port, Los Angeles Loyola three-star EDGE Scott Taylor, Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral three-star cornerback Kuron Jabari Jr. and Frisco (Texas) Memorial three-star cornerback Chase Coleman.

Both Taylor and Coleman joined the class last month.

“The culture is infectious,” Taylor told On3. “Coach Foster explained it to me, but also let me see how the team is buying in and working at an extremely competitive level. Everyone in the facility wants to win.”
