Former Tennessee EDGE Tyler Baron has committed to Miami, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Baron initially committed to Ole Miss in the portal before flipping his commitment to Louisville. He re-opened his recruitment on April 23 and has now found a home in Miami.

Baron spent four seasons at Tennessee. In the 2023 campaign, Baron tallied a career-high 28 tackles and six sacks while also recovering a fumble. Baron was named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week after recording two sacks in Tennessee’s season-opening victory over Virginia.

In four seasons with the Volunteers, Baron made 48 appearances and amassed 101 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, four passes defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Tyler Baron played high school football at Knoxville Catholic (TN), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 111 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Baron first visited Miami in late April. He was listed as the top available EDGE in the transfer portal, per On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings. Baron was also heavily recruited by LSU after re-opening his recruitment in April.

Baron is the 15th player Miami has added via the transfer portal during or since the 2023 campaign. The team has also lost 34 players, ultimately landing at No. 17 in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

Former MSU defensive lineman commits to Miami

Baron won’t be the only fresh face on Miami’s defensive front next season. On May 3, the Hurricanes landed a commitment from former Michigan State defensive lineman Simeon Barrow, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Barrow spent four seasons with the Spartans, redshirting as a freshman before becoming a three-year letter-winner for the program. Barrow made 34 appearances and 30 starts at MSU, tallying 110 career tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks, two blocked field goals, one pass break-up, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Barrow was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection the past two seasons for the Spartans, ranking No. 24 on Michigan State’s career sacks list and No. 15 on the program’s career sacks yards list with -92 yards.

Simeon Barrow played high school football at Grovetown (GA) where he was a three-star recruit. He was ranked the No. 783 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 59 EDGE from the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
