Former Ole Miss offensive lineman Bryce Ramsey will transfer to Southern Miss, he announced Sunday via Twitter. After redshirting in 2019, he spent the past two seasons in a reserve role for the Rebels.

A three-star recruit and Gulfport, Mississippi, native, Ramsey was the No. 68 offensive lineman in 2019 according to On3Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Southern Miss was one of the teams to offer him a scholarship out of high school, along with Florida State, Memphis and others.

“Thankful for all the opportunities that were given to me during my time in the portal, and mostly to the man above,” Ramsey wrote on Twitter. “With that being said, I will be taking my talents back home to Southern Miss.”

The former Ole Miss offensive lineman is set to transfer to a team that finished the 2021 season with a 3-9 record in coach Will Hall’s inaugural season. Prior to taking over the Golden Eagles, Hall was previously the offensive coordinator for Tulane.

Ramsey is set to block for running back Frank Gore Jr., the son of the NFL legend bearing the same name. Gore Jr. led the Golden Eagles with 801 yards rushing and five touchdowns in 2021.

Ole Miss went 10-3 in coach Lane Kiffin’s second year at the helm. They earned a trip to the Sugar Bowl, but lost to the Baylor Bears after quarterback Matt Corral went down with an ankle injury. The Rebels had one of the more explosive offensives in the country this season, finishing second in the SEC with 492.4 yards per game.

Ramsey’s first opportunity to make an impact for the Golden Eagles will come on Sept. 3 when Southern Miss opens the 2022 season against the Liberty Flames. Ole Miss will start off 2022 with a game against the Troy Trojans.
