2025 WR Dillon Newton-Short commits to Virginia
Chesterfield (Va.) Matoaca wide receiver Dillon Newton-Short has committed to Virginia, he announced on Friday.
A three-star prospect according to multiple recruiting services, Newton-Short chose the in-state Cavaliers while also holding offers from Virginia Tech, Maryland, Duke, Pittsburgh and others.
The 6-foot, 190-pound pass-catcher was offered by Tony Elliot and Co. at the beginning of May and wasted no time joining the fold in Charlottesville. He becomes commit No. 13 in UVA’s 2025 class.
Newton-Short is the second prospect to commit to UVA this month, following Orlando Bishop Moore Catholic three-star quarterback Bjorn Jurgensen, who pledged on May 2.
Cavaliers add another local piece to 2025 recruiting class
Newton-Short becomes the ninth commit on the offensive side of the ball for the Cavaliers. Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal three-star wide receiver Isaiah Robinson is a top-20 in-state commit, while Nashville Lipscomb three-star interior offensive lineman Jon Adair and Washington (D.C.) Maret three-star IOL Grayson Reid provide some beef in the trenches.

Jurgensen is one of two signal-callers in the class. Deerfield (Ma.) Academy three-star QB Cole Geer first pledged back in December. Both are top-60 recruits at the position.
On the defensive side, Lanham (Md.) Mt. Zion three-star cornerback Chris Spence is the top-ranked commit in the class, checking in at No. 484 overall and No. 46 at his position in the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s flanked by a trio of linebackers in Gilford (N.H.) Phillips Exeter three-star Isaiah Reese, Asheville (N.C.) three-star Justin Rowe and Northbrook (Ill.) Loyola Academy three-star Donovan Robinson.
Virginia’s class now ranks No. 43 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. That’s good for No. 10 in the ACC, ahead of the likes of Duke, Georgia Tech, NC State, Louisville and Boston College.
