Former Charleston guard Kobe Rodgers has committed to Louisville via the NCAA Transfer Portal, per Jeff Goodman. Rodgers only spent one year at Charleston and will now reunite with head coach Pat Kelsey, who took over Louisville this offseason.

According to Goodman, Rodgers is expected to redshirt this season. This decision is likely due to the knee injury Rodgers suffered in the second half of Charleston’s season-ending loss to Alabama in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Before exiting the game, Rodgers tallied 14 points, five rebounds and four assists in only 25 minutes. The standout performance was one of many for Rodgers during his lone season with the Cougars.

In the 2023-24 season, Rodgers averaged 9.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 50% from the field and 45% from beyond the arc. Rodgers’ best performance of the year came against Towson when he exploded for a season-high 24 points while connecting on 12-of-his-14 free-throw attempts.

Rodgers began his career at Division II program Nova Southeastern. While there, Rodgers found immense success. In his sophomore year, the Cincinnati native started every contest en route to a national title.

In his debut collegiate campaign, Rodgers appeared in 20 games while making 19 starts. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 8.3 points, 2.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 42.4% from the floor.

Kobe Rodgers played high school basketball at St. Xavier (OH), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 441 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Rodgers is the ninth player Louisville has added in the transfer portal this offseason. The team boasts the No. 1 spot atop On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings. Rodgers is the third Charleston player to join Kelsey at Louisville.

Players aren’t the only ones migrating from Charleston to Louisville. In April, Kelsey hired former Charleston staff members Brian Kloman, Thomas Carr and Michael Cassidy.

The group achieved rave success during Kelsey’s three years at the helm for the Cougars, winning two straight CAA Tournaments and regular season titles along with two appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Now, reunited in the Bluegrass State, Louisville’s staff will look to find similar success.
