Boston College transfer WR Joseph Griffin Jr. commits to Wisconsin
Boston College transfer wide receiver Joseph Griffin Jr. committed to the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. He hauled in 43 catches for 579 yards in two seasons, bringing in six touchdowns during that time. He’ll have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Griffin started in five games in the 2022 campaign, playing in eight of those. He hauled in 18 catches for 234 yards and five touchdowns. One of the most clutch catches he had that year came against NC State on Nov. 12, when he hauled in a two-yard touchdown catch in the final minute that won the game.
Boston College had an improved year this season, finishing with a 7-6 overall record. They enjoyed a 23-14 win over the SMU Mustangs in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. The Golden Eagles finished their regular season with three straight losses, to Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, and Miami.
Boston College dual-threat quarterback Thomas Castellanos was the man who led their offensive attack, finishing with 2,248 passing yards while tossing in 15 touchdowns with 14 interceptions. On the ground, he shredded opposing defenses to the tune of 1,113 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 215 carries.
In 2022, before coming to Boston College, Castellanos saw limited action for the UCF Knights, completing 9 of his 16 pass attempts for 75 passing yards, while getting sacked two times. As a runner, he had 14 carries for 120 yards, while punching in one touchdown.
The Wisconsin Badgers have always been one of the nation’s more consistent football programs over the years and they finished with a 7-6 record last season, including a 5-4 overall record in the Big Ten. Their offense was carried by their talented duo of running backs, Chez Mellusi and Braelon Allen. Allen nearly finished with three straight seasons of over 1,000 rushing yards: 1,268 in 2021, 1,242 in 2022, and 984 in 2023. Allen was freakishly strong and at 6-foot-1, 235 pounds, moved remarkably well for a player his size.
In 2024, Wisconsin will open up with the Western Michigan Broncos on Saturday, August 31st. Then the Badgers will take on South Dakota on Saturday, Sept. 7. One of their most anticipated matchups of the season rolls up on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they face off against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Badgers will also roll out the welcome mat for the Oregon Ducks, when they face off on Saturday, Nov. 16. It will mark the first year in the Big Ten Conference for the Ducks, coming from the Pac-12.
