Purdue lands New Mexico transfer OT DJ Wingfield

New Mexico transfer offensive tackle DJ Wingfield has committed to Purdue, he tells On3.

With one year of eligibility remaining, he’ll play his final season of college football in the Big Ten. A former junior college player, he took an official visit to West Lafayette earlier this month. Despite playing just one game at New Mexico in the 2022 season because of an ACL injury, he started every game this past fall.

The visit to Purdue made a major difference, DJ Wingfield said. Being developed by offensive line coach Marcus Johnson was a significant factor in the decision.

“Every coach seems really relatable,” he added.

Wingfield joins Notre Dame transfer offensive lineman Joey Tanona as the second portal pickup for Purdue. The Boilermakers finished this past season 4-8, failing to make a bowl game in the first year under head coach Ryan Walters and losing 21 players to the transfer portal.
